The CI Support to HUMINT course is designed to enhance intelligence professionals’ basic understanding and competency in the skills of the integration of intelligence and counterintelligence, the preparation of CI products supporting HUMINT, the introduction to and integration of vetting strategies and tools, and CI oversight.

Students learn how to analyze operational tradecraft and become familiar with the challenges and issues encountered in field environments. They are required to analyze actual cases, prepare written reviews, and brief the identified CI issues to a senior manager in a practical exercise. The latter includes case background, issues identified and formal counterintelligence recommendations. The instructor and support staff have specific and extensive field and supervisory experience in the various topics taught and draw on their recent experiences to illustrate the scope and often unpredictable nature of HUMINT. Each student is given a classified copy of most of the course materials used in the lessons. This student handbook is a valuable desk reference for counterintelligence referents, analysts and other intelligence professionals involved in the oversight and/or review of HUMINT operations.
